Questions & Answers

• I have (or have had) a diagnosed medical condition. Should I receive massage?

It is very important that you inform your therapist of any health conditions or medications you are taking. If you are under a doctor's care, it is strongly advised that you receive a written recommendation for massage prior to any session. Your massage therapist may require a recommendation or approval from your doctor. If you are suffering from any contagious or infectious disease, massage will make you feel worse. We advise that if you have a fever, cold, or the flu, wait till you have recovered before booking your appointment.

Some medical conditions are contraindicated for massage. If you are unsure as to whether or not you should receive massage due to a medical condition you may have, please consult your physician. Sometimes it is not obvious which conditions are contraindicated, so check here for further details.

• What treatment or session would be best for me?

Depending on your massage history, you may know what the different styles are and know exactly what you need to have happen during your session. If you are unsure of what the different methods are used for, let your therapist know how you are feeling before the session and how you want to feel after the session. You may find that if you just want to relax, you will want a Swedish massage, and if you have specific areas that need to be targeted for tension and stress, you would need a therapeutic-focused session. Your therapist will happy to discuss the benefits of each style with you if you would like to know more.

• What is your facility like?

We are located inside Embassy Sports Club; a luxury sports club located in the Omni hotel in uptown Charlotte. Our massage room is a relaxing retreat from the every day stressors of work and home, complete with beautiful music, a heated massage table, and a variety of aromatherapy oils and lotions to choose from.

• Where do I park?

The parking garage is located in the Omni hotel on the corner of Trade Street and College. The cost is $4/hr before 5pm. After 5pm, parking is free for an hour with a stamped ticket. On weekends, parking is free for 90 minutes with a stamped ticket. Metered parking is also available on surrounding side streets.

• What should I do before my massage?

Please plan on showering before your session, whether you do so at home or in the locker room on site. Cleanliness is very important for you and your therapist. Next, arrive at least 10 minutes before the start of your session. Arriving early allows for you and your therapist to discuss the type of session you need. If it is your first time, you will need to fill out the Client Intake Form.

• What should I wear?

By law, your therapist is required to explain draping procedures for your massage. Typically, you will dress to your comfort level for your massage. You will be draped with a sheet and blanket throughout your massage and your therapist will only undrape the areas that you have agreed to have worked on.

• What if I'm uncomfortable during my massage?

Most commonly, people may become uncomfortable with the temperature of the room, the volume of the music, or the pressure used in the massage. This can lead to a bad massage experience. To avoid feeling this way, please communicate with your therapist about anything that makes you uncomfortable. We are more than happy to guarantee you will have the best experience possible.

• Why do I need to provide my credit card information to secure an appointment?

We have a very busy schedule that usually includes a wait list, so we have found it necessary to guarantee your appointment time. A full refund is given if you provide us with at least 24 hours notice if you need to cancel your appointment. This will allow us to honor those on our waiting list with an appointment, should you need to cancel.

• What if I need to cancel my appointment?

If you need to cancel, please let us know at least 24 hours ahead of time or consider sending someone in your place. If you arrive late, you will have the remainder of your session to enjoy. Due to tight scheduling, it is not often we are able to extend our time beyond your original appointment time, so try to arrive on time! If 24 hours notice is not given, your credit card will be charged for your full session price.

• What about tipping?

As with all people providing personal services, it is customary to tip massage therapists for their work. With a portion of the fees from your session going towards supplies and management of the spa, your massage therapist does not earn 100% of the service provided. Therefore, tipping is usually between 15-20% of the total cost of services. Please be advised that gift certificates do not include a gratuity, so it is still customary to tip in this instance. Cash tips are ideal for gift certificates since credit card companies will not allow a tip to be charged unless it is included with the service.
